Local Outreach
Plus Power has been developing Mountain Peak since 2021 with a focus on meeting the needs of the Kansas grid and the customers it serves. A Conditional Use Permit application for the Mountain Peak project will be submitted to Saline County in 2024, supported by public engagement and education about the facility in the process. We are committed to working with Saline County and various local stakeholders, including Saline County Rural Fire Department #2, community members, local stakeholders, and policy makers, throughout the development process.
Community Benefits
Operating as a “merchant” project, the facility will bid its services into the Southwest Power Pool market, competing against all generation sources. It will discharge energy during costly peak demand periods, such as extreme weather events, which can help reduce ratepayer bills. Battery energy storage supports local reliability as intermittent generation resources increase in the state. Mountain Peak will help make the grid more efficient and reduce the need for expensive additional transmission line construction to serve new intermittent generation.
The Mountain Peak Energy Storage facility will be a good neighbor and a valuable asset to the surrounding community for decades to come. The project will provide necessary capacity to the region with no air polluting emissions. As a static facility with insignificant traffic and minimal municipal services, the Mountain Peak facility will have little impact on neighbors. Significant project benefits to the community include:
High-paying construction jobs
Enhanced resiliency from a new, state-of-the-art power resource
Financial benefits for the local community
